Drilling and Construction Bringing Clean Water to Angwan Maikyau

Written by Bolu Olorunfemi, Hope Spring volunteer, Director SuS Pads

The long-awaited day for the Angwan Maikyau community has finally arrived. After facing a setback with the initial drilling company, the Hope Spring team was able to secure the services of a reliable driller who promised to commence the work on Wednesday, February 25th, 2026.

In preparation for the drilling, the team visited the community on Tuesday to inspect the site and ensure everything was ready for the following day’s activities. The marked-out area from the previous geophysical survey was thoroughly cleaned, setting the stage for the drilling to begin.

On the morning of February 25th, the drilling commenced around 9 AM. It was an industrial-scale operation, with the driller meticulously working to reach a depth of 80 meters to meet the community’s water needs. After the drilling was completed, the casing was inserted, and the team waited a few days before proceeding with the next steps.

Following the drilling, the construction of the borehole’s infrastructure began. The mason work commenced, with the team building a sturdy reservoir stand and designing the water fetching area to accommodate the needs of the community. The fetching area was thoughtfully planned, with both standing and lower taps to ensure accessibility for the elderly and younger community members alike.

The final touches, such as the concrete capping, were left to dry for several days, ensuring the structural integrity and safety of the completed project. This attention to detail and commitment to quality construction will contribute to the long-term sustainability of the Angwan Maikyau borehole.

The successful drilling and construction of this borehole project mark a significant milestone in the journey to provide clean, reliable water access to the Angwan Maikyau community. The resilience and determination of the Hope Spring team, coupled with the active participation and support of the community, have paved the way for this transformative initiative.

As we move forward, the next steps will involve the commissioning of the borehole and the implementation of a comprehensive maintenance plan to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of this vital water source. The community’s well-being and the positive impact on their daily lives remain the driving force behind this project.

Special thanks to Bolu Olorunfemi, Director of SuS Pads, whose contribution played a key role in bringing this project to life.
