
Somto Ugwu
My name is Ugwu Somtochukwu Nnamdi. I am a lawyer by profession. I come from Enugu State, Nigeria and I am the last child of my parents. I love reading, travelling, playing soccer and video games, listening to music and watching movies.
I am one youth that is ever so passionate about promoting youth and women empowerment issues not just here in Nigeria, but also globally. This is because; the foregoing group are always being marginalized and discriminated against. This also forms part of the reason why I am joining Hope Spring. This is because; their work to promote youth and women empowerment through the SDG 6 is truly unique and innovative.
With regards to the foregoing, I am currently serving as both the Gender Head and Partnerships Officer at Society for the Improvement of Rural People (SIRP) an NGO based here in Nigeria. I am also a member of Men Engage Nigeria, a coalition of organizations based here in Nigeria, that are committed to increasing men and boys’ involvement in promoting issues concerning gender equality and women empowerment.
I am also currently serving as the team leader of a Youth Economic Empowerment (YEE) platform called Unskilled to Skilled (U2S), which works to further reduce the rate of youth unemployment and poverty here in Nigeria.
Finally, I am a member of the following youth coalitions i.e. Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), One Campaign, YouthLead (USAID initiative). I am also currently a Global Ambassador with the following organizations i.e. Rockflower (US), Digital Grassroots, Institute of Economics and Peace (IEP) and a 2019 UNLEASH Talent.
