OTA Water Project 2021

About Community
Ota is an ancient town in south-west Nigeria and a fast growing peri-urban area on the border of Lagos and Ogun State. The growth of the town is associated with the benefits that come with being in close proximity to Lagos – the commercial hub of Nigeria. This has allowed people to work in Lagos while living or managing other businesses in Ota.

Compared to Lagos, Ota has a large expanse of relatively cheap land available for residential and commercial purposes. Hence, the availability of markets and the presence of industries that offer job opportunities also contribute to the continuous growth in the population of this ancient town.

Why The Community
The continuous rapid growth in population and structure gradually eroded the natural sources of water (the streams, springs, and rivers) for the indigenous population. Without corresponding replacements or increase in the provision of water supply, the effect of urban migration to rural areas is in fact that there is no sufficient water supply for the rural dwellers. This put the indigenes in very poor water hygiene and sanitation conditions, the bulk of which is borne by children and women. Children and women are mostly seen searching for and standing in long queues to fetch water before they could do their domestic obligations. This situation called for intervention.
The Project
The Ijana Agangbo Ota water project. Hope Spring Water in Partnership with Bisiriyu Akintola family located a densely populated area within the indigenes’ residence for the drilling of the well. Quotations for Borehole drilling were collected from three borehole drilling companies and the most economical of them was considered for the project. A Borehole was drilled, scaffold erected, tank-mounted, pipes were run, taps fixed, and clean potable water was produced.
Project Impact
The project is projected to improve the Water Hygiene and Sanitation (WASH) status in Iyana Agangbo Ota community and thus improve the quality of life of its residents.

As water becomes more accessible, the project would go a long way in bringing comfort for women and children. It will also boost the productive capacity of the people of Iyana Agbangbo Ota in general.

Project Sustainability
Water and sanitation being the main guiding principle of Hope Spring Water, we give top priority to the sustainability of any of our water projects. The maintenance of the Borehole was placed in the care of the Bisiriyu Akinola Arogunmola family, who was a big player in the success of Ijana Agangbo water project. The family shall ensure necessary funds are mobilized for the regular maintenance of the water facilities.
