Water is life — yet for thousands of people across underserved communities, clean and safe water remains out of reach. Olambe, one of the largest and most vibrant communities under Ifo Local Government, has long faced the harsh realities of water scarcity, which affects health, education, and livelihoods.
Community Life in Olambe: The Heartbeat of Ifo LGA
Olambe, one of the largest and most vibrant communities in the Ifo Local Government Area (LGA), is home to a dynamic mix of families, artisans, traders, schoolchildren, and elderly residents. With Ifo LGA’s population estimated at 524,837, Olambe represents a substantial and active segment of this diverse population, contributing to the social and economic rhythm of the region.
Yet, behind the bustling streets and vibrant markets lies a pressing challenge: limited access to safe, reliable water. For years, households have struggled to meet their basic water needs, relying on a single, paid water source that is neither sufficient nor affordable for all residents. This scarcity has far-reaching consequences: children miss school while fetching water, women spend hours each day on the task, and families face increased health risks from contaminated sources.
Water poverty in Olambe is not just an inconvenience; it shapes the community’s daily life, limits economic opportunities, and affects overall health and well-being. Addressing this challenge requires more than infrastructure; it demands community-centered, sustainable solutions that empower residents and transform lives.
The Water Crisis in Olambe Before the Project
Before the project, the entire community relied heavily on a single paid water source. While this source served hundreds of households, it was:
- Costly for many low-income families
- Insufficient to meet the needs of a large and growing population
- Unreliable during peak periods
- Inaccessible to the elderly and physically vulnerable
- Strained during the dry season when demand doubled
Many families simply could not afford the water, particularly elderly residents living alone. Others had to queue for long hours or walk extended distances to purchase water that was not always available in adequate quantities.
The consequences were far-reaching:
- Reduced hygiene practices
- Increased risk of waterborne diseases
- Physical stress from carrying water long distances
- Children missing school because of water collection duties
- Women spending hours daily sourcing water instead of engaging in income-producing activities
Why the Olambe Borehole Project Was Essential
Recognizing the urgent need for a sustainable solution, Hope Spring Water identified Olambe as a priority community for intervention. The project’s aim was clear:
Project Goal
To alleviate water poverty in Olambe by providing a clean, accessible, and sustainable water source that brings relief to women, children, and elderly residents.
The community’s heavy dependence on one paid water option meant families lived in a continuous state of uncertainty. A borehole would not only solve the scarcity issue but also restore dignity, improve health outcomes, and reduce the financial burden on households.
Behind the Borehole: Planning, Precision, and Impact
The Olambe Borehole is more than just a source of water, it is the result of careful planning, expert engineering, and community-focused design. Factors such as water table depth, soil composition, and seasonal changes were carefully assessed to ensure the system would provide reliable water for years to come.
The Olambe Borehole Project officially commenced on 12th November 2025. From the outset, it was meticulously planned to meet the community’s urgent water needs, taking into account:
- Population density — ensuring the borehole could serve over 400 families efficiently
- Accessibility — designing the system so everyone, including the elderly and women, could easily collect water
- Geological suitability — drilling to a depth that would reliably tap clean underground water
- Long-term sustainability — building a system that would continue serving the community for years to come
The project was expertly supervised by Balogun Hameedat Shade, who coordinated the site preparation and oversaw every stage of execution to ensure smooth progress and high-quality workmanship.
The Olambe borehole is more than just a hole in the ground. It is a carefully designed water system built to provide safe, reliable water for the entire community
The system includes a deep borehole equipped with a durable submersible pump, guaranteeing a steady supply even during the driest months. Water is stored in a 1,500-liter, elevated tank, ensuring consistent pressure and availability throughout the day. 2 high elevated taps and 2 ground-level taps have been positioned thoughtfully so that every household can collect water easily and safely.
The timely handover of this borehole could not have come at a more crucial time. During the dry season, residents previously faced severe water scarcity, and the elderly often struggled to access limited sources. Now, with a reliable and clean water source, families in Olambe can enjoy improved health, reduced risk of waterborne diseases, and peace of mind.
Official handover took place on 30th November 2025, marking the completion of a transformative project just in time to avert the challenges of the dry season.
How this Project Was Funded

Key supporters include contributions via Hope Spring eCard and Ozami eCard, as well as fundraising platforms that allow individuals to celebrate occasions while also making a meaningful difference in communities.
Hope Spring eCards is one of the UK’s leading charity eCard platforms, offering a variety of designs—birthday, animated, video, and seasonal greetings. Every eCard sent contributes directly to projects like the Olambe Borehole, enabling donors to fund an entire project, part of a project, or make a one-off donation. Importantly, recipients of these eCards are informed that their greeting has helped provide clean, safe water to hundreds of families.
Through these contributions, supporters are not just sending a message; they are changing lives, restoring hope, and creating lasting impact for communities that need it most.
Looking Ahead: A Future Shaped by Clean Water
The Olambe Borehole Project marks an important milestone, but it is just one step in Hope Spring Water’s larger mission: ending water poverty, one community at a time. Clean water is more than a necessity; it is the foundation for health, education, economic opportunity, and dignity. By ensuring access to safe water, communities can thrive, children can stay in school, families can focus on income-generating activities, and overall quality of life improves.
This project also demonstrates the power of collective action. With continued support through Hope Spring eCard or Ozami eCard, more communities like Olambe can experience life-changing access to clean water.
