First Borehole Project 2022:

GDJSS & the Agbabiaka Community, Ilorin, Nigeria.

“…a timely solution to the water scarcity challenges confronting GDJSS and its hosting community….”  – The School Principal.

About GDJSS

Government Day Junior and Senior Secondary School, Agbabiaka (GDJSS) is located in the southern part of Ilorin, an ancient town and the capital of Kwara State in north-central Nigeria. It was established in September 2006 and has a population of 750 students.

Why GDJSS

Hope Spring Nigeria Team’s interaction with the school principal, Mrs. Rafat Shuaib, revealed the plight of students and staff of GDJSS in terms of poor access to clean water.

“The school compound comprises two schools both senior secondary school and junior secondary school and the two schools share things together. Water crisis has been a major challenge in our school. We normally go outside to fetch water from the well.” said Mrs. Shuaib

The Project

Quotations for borehole drilling were collected from four borehole drilling firms and the most economical of them was selected for the project. A 125-metre deep borehole was drilled, tank-mounted, pipes were run and taps fixed to produce clean drinkable water for the school and the host communities.

Project Impact

The project will solve water scarcity problems in GDJSS and its host community by making water readily available at all times.

It will provide water which will enhance good hygiene and invariably make learning and teaching an easy task for students and teachers of GDJSS.

“ It serves as a great relief to both students and teachers at this time and to the community well deserved one because water is life. Almost two communities will benefit from it and some people around the school environment.” confirmed Mrs. Shuaib.

“The entire students, teachers and the Agbabiaka community really appreciate all members of Hope Spring Water Charity. May the Almighty Allah continue to bless you all and enrich your pockets abundantly.” added the school principal.

Project Sustainability

The school management is entrusted with the responsibility of adequate and regular maintenance of the project.
